Former head chef, 35-year-old James from Reading joined the Work and Health Programme in December 2023.
James injured his hands in a motorbike accident in January 2023 and could no longer work in a kitchen and wanted to get back to work.
Cheffing was James’ career, he had 12 years of experience and being out of work had hit his confidence too.
When he met with his Fedcap employment coach Sam, James explained to her that his bills were piling up and he just wanted to start working again.
Seetec are in partnership with Fedcap to deliver the Work and Health Programme in the Reading area.
Transferable skills
Sam and James met again to agree an action plan to help him to get back to work.
As part of the action plan, James receive support with updating his CV and understanding his transferable skills.
Sam introduced him to ‘Hot Job’s’ sessions for job search assistance and James started to take ownership of his journey.
Sam says; “James had a very positive attitude, he engaged well and was keen to achieve targets set for him”.
She continues; “I advised James about some roles with Fedcap and submitted his CV to our management team”.
James’ potential was clear to see and so Sam set about helping him to top up his interview skills.
James was successful at interview and offered an engagement coach role with Fedcap in Reading, which he started March 2024
Fall in love with work again
Delighted with his new job, James tells us; “I’m forever grateful to Fedcap for believing in me”. He continues to say; “This role has given me; stability, motivation, a new lease of life and the chance to fall in love with work again!”
James would like to progress within Fedcap and work his way up. He is fortunate in the sense that his own lived experience is likely to serve him well on that journey.
